Birding at Prime Hook NWR: Featuring an Eastern Wood-Peewee (8/1/20)

It was a good day to see a lot of birds and I saw 35 species. Purple martins were very busy in their apartments near the Visitor’s Center. I identified 34 species just along Dike Trail including ruby-throated hummingbird; Carolina, marsh, and house wrens; and immature little blue and black-crowned night herons. Along the Boardwalk Trail were common yellowthroat, osprey, blue-gray gnatcatcher, and snowy egret. At the end of the morning, I walked into the field across the road from the purple martin apartmens and saw turkey vulture, northern flicker, and eastern wood-peewee.
