Birding at Prime Hook NWR: Featuring a Carolina Wren (7/5/21)

Birding at Prime Hook NWR: Featuring a Carolina Wren (7/5/21)

The birds were fairly active for late morning and early afternoon, except in the water areas which were mostly void of birds. Around the visitor’s center I saw purple martin, brown-headed cowbird, red-winged blackbird, and northern mockingbird, among some other birds. Along the Dike Trail, some of the birds I identified included orchard oriole, barn swallow, snowy egret, osprey, blue grosbeak, common yellowthroat, laughing gull, Forster’s tern, black vulture, and gray catbird. My last walk covered the Boardwalk Trail. Some of the birds I identified here were northern flicker, orchard oriole, Carolina wren, American robin, blue-gray gnatcatcher, chipping sparrow, blue grosbeak, and northern cardinal.
